Fina bans HiTech Swimsuits

Unread postby Lycrafan2004 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 2:30 am
Have you heard?
Fina, the international Swim Association has banned the HiTech Swimsuits, for example the LZR Racer from Speedo.

Here some webnews for your info about the background:
3 News from New Zealand
Telegraph from UK

What do you think about this?
Apart from the question if this is "technical doping" or not, what do you prefer? The full body suits or the good old Tard or Swim suit for women/ Swimming Shorts for men?

I'm for the ban. I love the high cut Speedo style suits. It shows off the body much more.
All hot women should be in shiny spandex. So I'm getting changed into one so I can show off my wardrobe fulltime!

I knew of the ban a couple of weeks ago which was announced as the fina rome '09 swim championships were just starting to take place. Its going to put a dent on the long legged super tight type suits like jaked ect. For those of you who collect these type of photos you better treasure and copy whats available now on the internet and in the 'swim meet competitions' thread (and elsewhere) on this forum. [these photos will be a 'collectors item' some day in the long term future if theese suits are banned indefinitely] One of the reasons I started that thread was that swim suit precisely. Lets see what the new textile sleeveless knee high female fina allowed suits look like.
Will have to adapt to the new suits and back to the competitive one-piece traditional suits.

i agree davis, it is really a pity that these suits will not been seen anymore.
The fullsuits have some good aspects, but also the good old swimsuit as lycratv said.
I love both, the fullsuits because of the "leggings" and the good curves, the speedo style suits because they do not cover all the skin.
Both look good!

Maybe we will see them at Triathlon championships or are they totally forbidden now?

I wasnt a fan of the Razr suits. I found that it covered the 'good' bits too much and didnt conform to the girls curves as well with the 'patchy' sections added on. I always liked the almost 'bodystocking' look as it was continuous. It had a cleaner look.

But yeah, bring back the high cut swimsuits of old I say.
There is no such thing as 'too tight'.

If anyone has ANY footage of 'aerobics oz style' from the early 90's, let me know..

I never much cared for the Speedo LZR. It's not because I don't like bodysuits. On the contrary some of the Arena and Jaked tech suits looked good on girls especially when wet. Those tech suits I will miss. But the material/texture of the LZR was never really my taste. It had some sort of scaly quality to it like a Croc skin or something. It doesn't have that smooth feminine look and doesn't look as nice to me when wet.

but what do you think? Is it technical doping?
Of course you can not compare a shark-skin-dress with EPO but after all this is a dress that smaller swim associations from poor countries can not buy because of less money from the government. So after all this is an edge for rich swim athletes and associations.

Counter-argument is that everybody can buy this dress because it is sold as regular in the net and that is was not forbidden (like EPO) at past championships.

It is (was) legal so it's not cheating. But obviously they're a big help given the unprecedented avalanche of world records set recently.

The best professional athletes could afford the suits. It's the younger swimmers and their families that were having a hard time. Few athletes from small poor countries were competitive in swimming before the tech suits. Those that were live and train in other countries. So I'm not sure what difference that would have made. Although you could say that it would help to perpetuate a problem that already existed.

It's tough for the young athletes though. Even moreso that each suit was only a good for a few swims. I think it's better for the sport. The prohibitive cost factor may have pushed kids into other sports. It's also better for perception I think. World Records don't mean as much if they're broken a million times. Plus the perception (right or wrong) is that they were floating to world records rather than swimming. It was taking focus away from the athletes. People only wanted to talk about the suits.

Why would you wear spandex?

You may select 1 option

A. Curiosity. To feel spandex when you wear it like woman, though as a man you cannot wear it publicly.

B. Transvestism. To prove you want to become a woman, at least in your mind.

C. Feel. Spandex can care you in a special way when it wraps your body tightly and gently.

D. Exhibition. To show you in spandex to other spandex fans.

E. Other. Please give it here.

Why would you wear spandex?

Unread postby tightfigure » Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:36 pm
Choices:

I would choose A and C. I believe spandex doesn't have any inherent female characteristic. And I like to see woman in it, not men.

Choices C and E for me. I like the way it feels on me, and for E, I think that spandex should be the only fabric used when exercising.

I agree with VanMan. I also am C and E. I share the same thought that spandex should be the only fabric used when exercising. I use it legitimately for exercise.

Here is another reason to wear spandex. For a woman, it shows off alot of the right curves of her body. Also, spandex shows off alot. In another way, if an incredibly HOTT woman were to parade around wearing whatever spandex she chose, its like a polite way to cover herself, instead of going out nude.
I'd rather see an attractive woman coverred in spandex(no hood), rather than see her nude.

would have to be A, C and E for me.

but I do wear lycra running tights outside so that maybe means "A" is not applicable. One of the best things is where I have worn my running tights to a race event and lots of women have their lycra on too. Feel's good to wear it and have women around you also wearing it without anyone thinking anything of it. 8-)

If you're sweating, lycra spandex can make your skin much more comfortable than other sporting suits.
The fabric lycra can help your skin to deal with sweat.
Someone said they like the feel that lycra spandex is stuck upon skin by sweat.

I have to disagree with the first two.

I wear spandex outside publically when jogging, running a marathon, or at the gym.

I wear spandex jammer shorts when swimming as well.

It also has nothing to do with wanting "to look like a woman" or be a cross-dresser or "transvestite". I'm proud to be a man. I think the misconception here is that "spandex" is "women's clothes." Many companies manufacture spandex leggings, shorts, and bodysuits specifically for men. Thus, I see it as being men's clothes as well.

I believe many of men here would wear woman-specific spandex.
Woman swimming suit, woman gymnastic/dancing leotard, woman unitard ...
Leotard is almost a patent of woman because its crotch probably makes men embarrassed.

I chose E because anything short of string ties and stetsons beats the crud out of what you see women wearing on sports sidelines and fitness shows

My wife was a professional dominatrix, she combines spandex encasement with electro-play and bondage to humilate and control me. :o

My answers are E and C.

First and foremost, as a serious bicycle racer, our fabric of necessity and choice is spandex. It holds your muscles tight and looks good on your body.

Wearing spandex also is a social barrier issue. It is nice to be able to wear it proudly and not worry about if others think you look good or not. I am happy to be tall and reasonably thin. Trust me, it does not look good on everyone.

A tip...

If you want your favorite pieces to slip on easily, try shaving your legs.

Just out of curiosity, if you had the ability to turn into a woman (I suppose you want to emulate women in spandex - judging by your comment), what would you consider the utmost experience? In other words, would you go as far as letting a man have sex with you while you're wearing spandex? Assuming you had something like a unitard with crotch zipper or something along those lines, of course (e.g. ready-to-rip catsuit).

I started out as A, curiosity...but then I quickly became E ; mostly about the feeling : and I do wear women's spandex, not for the sake of wanting to be feminine but because...imo... women's spandex feels best to me.

I like the feeling of being groped in my spandex. A good pawing while in a pair of disco pants and bodysuit or in a tight catsuit feels great. I would be open to being used while in my spandex too. I just love the feeling of having some nice heavier weight spandex on and also enjoy the feel i get when out and about and people are looking at me.

Interesting. To be honest the psychology behind why men feel the urge to do that makes us in awe of how complex our minds work.
